Coldplay's "Hymn for the Weekend"

Controversy surrounding Beyoncé's appearance aside (follow me on Twitter for a recap), I must say that the video is visually stunning. The cinematography makes me want to jump on a plane and land in Mumbai asap. Lovely!

Ms. Rhea Kapoor did a phenomenal job styling sister Sonam for her beautiful, albeit brief, appearance. Her whole gaon ki gori look is fetching. Check out the close-up details of her blouse - the embroidery is gorgeous.
Queen Bey's look is just...well...over the top. There's no denying the workmanship of the Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla piece. However, the styling screams "exotic, goddess, mystical, mysterious, sensual, eastern blah blah blah". The usual, tired Indian trope. Where is the value added?

Lady in Red

On the occasion of Republic Day, La Rai was invited to the capital to lunch with the President of France, Francois Hollande. And she certainly brought her A-game for the event! La Rai presented a complete, Bollywood diva look - everything from her sleek chignon, to her kundan jewelry (!!), to her sari, was on point. I think that the roses tucked into her chignon *might* have been OTT, but no matter. If it was "dramatic diva" she was aiming for, she hit her mark.

Shiseido Urban Environment Tinted UV Protector

Where I live, it's sunny 90% of the year. I'm not complaining about the abundant sunshine, but it has made daily UV protection absolutely imperative. Urban Environment Tinted UV Protector is touted as an oil-free, tinted moisturizer with a whopping SPF 43. It comes in three colors (I use #3), that really sink into the skin. It is also said to have skin-improving qualities that inhibit wrinkle-formation and skin discoloration in addition to basic sun protection.

Pro: I'm all about combining steps in my morning routine. This product combines moisturizing and SPF 43 with a slight tint. It is oil-free, which is a must for acne-prone or oily skin types. I've learned that SPF 35 is the absolute minimum one should wear for sun protection, so we're obviously well-covered here! Don't be alarmed that there are only three shades available - as I've stated, the color payoff is minimal, and I've found that #3 disappears right into my skin without leaving any dreaded …

Republic Day and "Neerja" Promotions - Take 2

Sonam celebrated Republic Day with the schoolchildren attending the real-life Neerja Bhanot's (click here, to read more about this courageous woman) alma mater. Her cheerful khadi sari with its colorful Kutch embroidery couldn't have differed more from her outing earlier in the day. It's a little difficult to see with the way she's posing here, but I love the slightly flared blouse; it reminds me of the Gujarati men's kediyu in its cut.

Embellishment Two Ways

We are very accustomed to seeing zardosi work on special occasion lehengas; particularly if you are a fan of the work of Mr. Manish Malhotra - he incorporates some of the finest detailing I've ever seen. Take a look at Sushmita for further evidence.
I wanted to highlight a different, and in my opinion, less common type of detailing: Lucknowi. Just look at Divya's stunning lehenga! I love it. Here, it gives the impression of an ethereal snow princess. Both outfits featured here were worn at Asin's Mumbai wedding reception.

Republice Day and "Neerja" Promotions

So am is truly a style chameleon - going effortlessly from soft, romantic looks to retro glamour. Here she takes on a mod, geometric avatar, and proves that along with her style team, she believes in the "all in" philosophy. From sleek hair and exaggerated cat-eye, to sculptural earrings, to the angular lines of her blouse, and the strict color palette - she sticks to her latest theme admirably.

Cover Story: Priyanka on "Elle"

Sure, our resident golden girl, PC has graced the Indian covers of global magazines dozens of times. But here's PC in an oh-so-sultry avatar on the cover of "Elle" - the American edition. I love spotting desippearances in my favorite magazines, and now on the covers as well! I'm digging the texturized hair and natural makeup. Pretty pretty!

Filmfare Awards

Alia hit all the right notes (well, almost) at Filmfare. Her waterfall hem added the right amount of drama to this tea frock. I loved it and the retro pinned curls. I would, however, stick to a pair of matched heels next time. Photo: @aliaabhatt

Shaadi Story: Asin and Rahul's Reception

Asin maintained her light color palette at her Mumbai wedding reception. The odhni of her pretty, pastel lehenga does make me think of Easter sweets. I would have loved if she'd surprised us with a color-saturated, bold ensemble. However, a bride should definitely stay true to her own style for her big day, and she is glowing.

YBTJ: Nargis vs. Deepika

The styles worn by these two leading ladies are similar silhouettes - long jackets predominating the looks. Both are lovely, yet strikingly different. Deepika's Anamika Khanna ensemble is adventurous, on-trend, and fairly yells "haute couture". Nargis' Anita Dongre creation is definitely the most likely to be wearable by us mere mortals. Plus, its timeless presentation with the woven Benarasi jacket over raw silk slim pants catches my handloom-loving heart. This one really depends on your perspective.

Padma, Mindy, and Priyanka - Oh My!

There were plenty of desippearances to be found in the February issue of "InStyle"! I'm particularly fond of the crop top paired with a voluminous skirt featured on favorite funny-woman, Mindy - so flattering!

Positively Pink!

I think we can all agree that Alia's hot pink, brocade skirt is gorgeous. The tucked in shirt puts me in mind of Carolina Herrera; I might have swapped a solid, white button-down a la Ms. Herrera so that the skirt could take centerstage. Photo: @manishmalhotra

Shaadi Story: Asin and Rahul

Asin Thottumkal recently wed Rahul Sharma in a lavish celebration in Delhi. The festivities included a Catholic ceremony where matchmaker Akshay served as best man, and a Hindu ceremony. The bride was steadfast to her traditional tastes for both ceremonies. As expected, we did not see Asin flout any bridal fashion  conventions. Long, white, and demure for the day look, and heavily embroidered Sabyasachi elegance, accented with Amrapali jewels, for the night. God bless!

Seen and Heard @ "Neerja" Promos

Handloom FTW

La Shetty attended the Umang police benefit in an exquisite Benarasi handloom sari. I love it so much. That is all.

Laura Mercier Smooth Focus Setting Powder

Oily skinned gals, take heed: we will avoid wrinkles later in life, and this matteifying powder will get us through the day handily! Win-win.

Pros: this little compact got me through several humid, Florida weddings without giving me dreaded ghost-face in the photos. I apply this powder over my SPF moisturizer or Laura Mercier loose powder.  I prefer to use a stipple brush to dust on initially in the morning, and then use the enclosed sponge for any touch ups. You will want to use a light touch when applying or you will have a tough time blending. The result is matte with a blurring of imperfections. I also use it on my eyelids and under my lower lash line to act as an oil-absorber to prevent eye liner smudges.

Cons: it's not 12-hour matteifying by any means. I typically have to touch up in the afternoon, and again at night if I'm heading out.

Bottom line: if you struggle with moderate to severe oiliness, buy one compact for home, and one for your handbag, and one for your gym ba…

Friday Faceoff

Houseful 3 promotions are in full swing, with leading men Akshay, Riteish, and Abhishek spotted here, there, and everywhere. The tres amigos deal is certainly favorable to Akshay. His dapper style is highlighted by the constant companionship of lil' B and Riteish. It comes down to two issues: sartorial choices, and hair. Akshay always manages to be event appropriate yet classy. Hair-wise, Abhi needs to tame the fro down an inch or two, and Riteish needs to cut back on the gel, and definitely lose the pony tail (if that's for a movie role, he better have a bad hair bonus built into his contract!).
And, finally, for pure viewing pleasure, have a dekho at suited up Akki at Asin's recent wedding. Swoon.
