AdWatch: All That Glitters ...

After a number of years with La Rai as their glittering representative, last fall, Gitanjali Gems introduced Kat as their new brand ambassador for their Nakshatra line. Both are equally stunning so one cannot call the substitution of Kat as an "upgrade". Perhaps it is simply a business coming to the realization that successful ad campaigns may require a fresh face from time to time. Now please don't take "fresh" to mean anything in the age sense. In fact, I'm getting a little tired of reading about the age of La Rai as a justification for the change because I think that's bunk. Sometimes, a change is a change.
That being said, let's take a look at both campaigns. I remember seeing the ad with La Rai on the crescent moon-like diamond necklace in stores in the Desh. It's my favorite of her ads. She looks ethereal and it's exactly the delicate quality that presents the jewels in the finest manner. Some of the other ads, I feel, have a little too much going on in them and detract from both La Rai and the jewels. The bottom right ad returns to elegant simplicity and features a close-up of beautiful Aish and sparkly baubles.As for Kat's ads, keep in mind, she just took up this gig so there's not too many to choose from. The center ad has a Venus-like quality about it. The minimalist look and blue sky background complement the delicate jewelry. Looks like they figured out that a busy backdrop is a distraction.

Meet Queen Jetsun Pema of Bhutan

The young, beautiful, and fashionable Queen of Bhutan, a country secluded from the world's limelight due to its remoteness, has already been generating a stir ever since her marriage to the King and her rise to the position of Queen Consort. She is a powerhouse in her own right, and much loved by the Bhutanese people. Archives: Kunal Nayyar Weds Neha Kapur

TV's lovably neurotic astrophysicist Rajesh Koothrapali (aka Kunal N) married former Miss India Neha Kapur in a lavish round of ceremonies in Delhi back in December. Thankfully the real life Kunal doesn't require booze to talk to women - otherwise these two would be headed for a very silent or very drunk married life. Cheers to the happy couple. Here are a couple of snaps from Neha's mehendi ceremony and from their Big Fat Indian wedding reception. I hear it was a small, family affair with only about 1,000 people in attendance. Coming to a Screen Near You: Freida Pinto.

So not only is this lass charming fashion houses the world over, Freida is racking up the film offers! We already know Freida's been tapped for Woody Allen's next project. Now, The Sun is breaking news that Freida has been asked to audition for the next Bond film which is reportedly likely to be directed by none other than Danny Boyle. I may be biased, but I think fab Freida would make one fierce Bond Girl! This is one rumor I hope comes to fruition. Daniel Craig + Freida Pinto = must-see Bond flick.
