She's Everywhere!

Yet another desippearance by lovely Lakshmi in as many days. Photographer Mikael Jansson shot Lakshmi on location in her hometown, pristine Goa, for an editorial spread in Vogue. She looks so beautiful and utterly comfortable and at ease in familiar Goan locales.(L-R) YSL white silk dress & gold Louboutins, Alexander McQueen diamond-print dress, Ports 1961 abstract plaid dress.

Christmas in April?

Udita made an appearance at the Swarovski fashion show decked out - strangely enough - in Christmas colors. Her dress certainly didn't make me green with envy. On its own, it is not great, but also not completely heinous (aside from the visible bra straps). But those clunky, wooden shoes with red leather accents are just utterly awful.Photo Source.

Filmi Forecast: Maharashtra Maaza.

Riya Sen will be dropping her glam babe act for the forthcoming release Zor Laga Ke ... Haiya which is shaping up to be a kiddie-centric, feel good, environmentally friendly flick. Riya is playing the part of a gaavatli Marathi mulgi (girl from a village) and though her look is simple, she looks beautiful in cotton navaris. Her look for the film, is completed with a traditional Maharashtrian hair knot adorned with flowers, kohl rimmed eyes, a half-moon bindi, and glass bangles .Photo Source.
The film also stars Mithun da, Mahesh Manjrekar and Seema Biswas. Extensively shot in Mumbai, Zor Laga Ke ... Haiya revolves around five kids who inspire the adults around them to lead more positive lives. Riya's character is a hardworking construction worker. Apparently Mithun da is returning to cinema with a bang; he reportedly has a disco number in this film. Scheduled for release in May, Zor Laga Ke ... Haiya apparently won an award of some kind at the Las Vegas International Film Festival.…

And So It Ends.

Looks like Vidya's back at it with her mind numbingly bland anarkalis. At the Karadi Tales audio book launch, Vidya returned to a painfully familiar avatar. Her foray into kicky color was woefully short lived. Its always sad when boring happens to beautiful people.(L) Photo Source. (R) Photo Source.

Model Behavior.

Check out Lakshmi Menon lighting up the pages of the Bergdorf Goodman spring/summer 2009 catalog (BG Magazine). Lakshmi is one fierce chica! She made a desippearance in the "Street Smart" spread shot by photog Hans Feurer and pictorialized entirely on her.

Enough Already!

Anu Deewan browsed the unveiling of Neeta Lulla's summer 2009 collection entitled "Chicanomic" at the NL store in Mumbai. As usual, her outfit itself was completely unremarkable. However, much of the outfit was obscured by her choice of handbag. Yep. Yet another ginormous Birkin. Lady, we get it. You have an enviable collection of lux handbags. Maybe you should direct your handbag $ toward another label or another style. Methinks this one is in dire need of a handbag stylist. I wish that was my biggest problem in life!Photo Source.

R.I.P., Feroz Khan.

As many of you have already heard, Indian cinema lost a great force in Feroz Khan who recently passed on following a long battle with cancer. Please click here to read the NYT obit. My deepest condolences to the Khan family, as well as to Khan sahib's larger, Bollywood family.

No Surprise Here.

Shilpa hosted a bash in honor of her IPL team, the Rajasthan Royals, at the breathtaking Jai Mahal palace in Jaipur. Sorry PZ, but I don't think the Kings of Punjab can compete with that kind of scenery! Shilpa wore a garishly colorful anarkali that practically screamed Manish Malhotra. He is, after all, her fave designer so it's clearly well within the realm of possibility. And do I spy a LV "Limelight" clutch? No surprise there either. The girl is a self confessed LV addict.Photo Credit: BCCL/Saatish Jaiswal.

Au Natural.

Manisha appeared at a kathak performance, looking somewhat tired, but on the whole, pretty in a simple cotton sari. There's nothing wrong with simple! I quite like the look. I just wish she'd opted for an oxidized jewelry set. As far as makeup goes, I'd bet she's opted for a fresh scrubbed look. It actually works for her as she's blessed with lovely, clear skin. It's nice to see a star who's comfortable enough in her own skin that she can leave the house without a full face of makeup. The key point to take home here is that she didn't throw off her fresh-faced look with inordinately heavy kajal or matte red lips. This look isn't for the faint of heart - self confidence is a must!Photo Source.

Sari Story.

Nandita Das attended the world premiere of Gandhi, My Father at the Indian Film Festival L.A. in her trademark six yards of silk. Along with her naturally carefree hair and kohl rimmed eyes, silk saris have become her M.O. Although this time, I found her sari to be a bit on the dull side; however, she does wear it well as per usual. If she had lost the watch and swapped in a necklace/earring set, I think her whole look would have had a much needed shot of drama. On the other hand, Tisca Chopra carefully avoided excessive jewelry and let her lovely emerald-black chiffon sari do the talking. Love the large embroidery on the sari - it's bold but not overpowering.Photo Credit: Getty Images.

Too Good To Be True.

At the Titan Raga "Chocolat!" launch it initially seemed like Amrita had finally gotten herself a much needed hair makeover. At first glance, her glossy curls made me (incredulously) ask myself, "Can it be? Has she finally seen a stylist and done something about that two-tone hair?" Sadly, the answer is: no. While she clearly brought a stylist on board to give her locks shiny, happy curls, it looks like that's about all she did. The two-tone remains. The bottom half almost blends into her jacket (which is obv muy brown, not at all close to black), which is why it was hard to spot the two-tone right away. Eeks. Maybe it's time to anonymously send her a box of Clairol? Whaddaya say?Photo Source.

Labels Galore!

Apparently, our lovely fashionista is also a girl scout at heart! Sonam distributed books to underprivileged children at a Radio Mirchi event clad in an off-the-shoulder Catherine Malandrino top which she paired with the now uniquitous Hermés belt and LV monogram hoop earrings. She's a fashion plate no matter what she's doing, na?Photo Source.

Basic Black.

Sonali, Twinkle and Gayatri Joshi attended the Jade store launch in variations of basic black. These ladies prove that it's nearly impossible to go wrong with black. Well...except for Twinkle's round-toe blue pumps. Her look reminds me of this look but the heels in blue and with this dress, are just not working. On the other hand, I'm digging the hemline on Sonali's LBD as well as her beach hair. Very sexy and undone.Photo Source.

x 2: Breezy Babe.

Dia mixed the right amount of dressed up and laid back in her flowy, tunic-style dress. She offset the voluminous top with strappy heels which resulted in a gam-lengthening effect. She hit up the Swarovski fashion show and the grand opening of the Regale restaurant in the same outfit - right down to the same heels and beaded strand necklace. As cute as she looks, that's a x2 if I ever saw one!Photo Source.

Twice As Nice.

While she's sticking to her fave silhouette, at least it seems like Vidya's gotten out of her rather monochromatic rut. First at a recent cartoon launch, and now at the 80th birthday celebration for yesteryear actress Shammi, VB arrived in colorful and innovative anarkali suits. I love 'em! You?Photo Credit: Shantanu Das.

x 2: Bebe.

Speaking of x2ing a celeb, Celina attended the grand opening of the World of Silver store, and wore the same so-pink-it's-almost-red Bebe dress that Bips previously wore on Indian Idol. Between the two ladkis, I think Bips wore it better by pairing the shiny toned dress with metallic heels rather than the blah, matte, nude pair that Celina chose. I must say, Celina's hair and makeup look good for a change, and not overdone. Just wish she'd lose those darn lenses!Photo Source.

Sometimes, Shorter Is Better.

Neha and Mughda attended the Playboy fragrance launch at Enigma. I gotta say, Neha won this round in the battle of event-appropriate attire. Looks like she actually factored in the event in question when she made her fashion choice. If you are promoting a Playboy product, a shorter hemline is probably better. Mughda looks totally out of place in her floor-length gown at this particular product launch. Neha, on the other hand, sizzles in a metallic mini.Photo Source.

Fashion Gets Political.

With elections right around the corner in the Desh, I feel it is incumbent upon me - neigh, it is my moral responsibility - to utilize this forum to tackle tough political issues. With that in mind, let's get super serious and give our undivided attention to a matter of utmost concern: what our Bolly-town celebs-turned-politicos are wearing on the campaign trail. To reach the masses, it seems you have to dress like them - simplicity dominates. Cotton saris and simple salwaar suits were in abundance. Hema Madam playfully accessorized with a traditional Assamese hat whilst campaigning in that region. Sallu baba campaigned in the Mumbai heat clad in one of his own designs from his Being Human line. Does simplicity make our Tinseltowners more credible? Photo Credit: AP Photo.Photo Credit: Reuters Pictures.Photo Credit: AP Photo.
Lest this post be perceived as total fluff, here's the political breakdown for the celebs featured here: Sallu baba and Mahima = Congress, Jaya = Samajwadi…

The Real Mistress of Spices.

Seems like Padma's swanky digs are getting mad love from mags these days. First Harper'sand now InStyle. Granted the Padma spread in InStyle had less to do with her home décor, and more to do with her jewelry line. I couldn't help but giggle at all the lentil/cardmom/clove references she sprinkled throughout her interview in a valiant effort to tie together jewelry design with her foodie alter ego. Have a look for yourself.

Check It.

Look who made a desippearance on one of my fave blogs! The well-dressed Mr. Ahluwalia was featured by The Sartorialist on Monday. Love the calm expression with which he fixes the camera amid all the hustle of NYC traffic. Great shot, great actor! On a related note, I know it's old, but I was gleeful when I first caught this AmEx ad on the telly. Boy does Waris look phenomenal in white!

They Could Be Twinnies.

zzzzzzzz. Oops. Sorry. I dozed off there for a minute right after seeing this snap of PZ attending the IPL Gala in Capetown in .. .zzzzzz ....There I go again. In an all too familiar Manish Malhotra sari. Remember Bebo at the Filmfare Awards? I wish PZ had picked another color - like a peach or a pink for instance. But if the color was that important to her, and it just had to be a MM creation, well, rather than x2ing another celeb, maybe she should have opted for a lehnga like the one she wore last year when she walked for the designer. Now I'm not loving the macrame-style detailing on the lehnga, but at least it's a fresh, non-Kapoorized treatment of white.Photo Source.
On the flip side, Preity brought out her delish pair of emerald dazzlers. We've seen 'em not once, but thrice, now, but I still adore them!Photo Source.

Denim Debacle.

Take a good look at this denim-on-denim disaster. I hesitate even to pair a simple denim jacket over jeans although this is actually ok provided the denim pieces are of different rinses. VJ Pooja Misra has gone way over the deep end with the ill-fitting denim bustier + too snug jeans combo she sported at her calendar's success party. All that denim makes me think she's on her way to a rather scandalous ho-down. Yee haw! Somebody ship this chick off to Madam Hema's School asap.Photo Source.

Island Attire.

Deepika was crisp yet casual in a summery palmetto-print strapless number at the unveiling of the latest issue of Filmfare at Vie Lounge in Juhu. For her tall, slender frame, this hemline is just right and not too long as she sometimes is prone to wearing. While her layered hair is inching closer to '70s style, feathered, Farah-hair, I am glad to see some added volume at her roots. Her hair usually falls a bit flat in its poker straightness. Big hair is in, baby!(L) Photo Source. (R) Photo Source.

I &hearts Patiala Salwaars.

Manyata Dutt wore a lovely and unassuming patiala style salwaar suit to an event at Priya & Chintan's store. The simplicity of the suit exudes an elegance that a flashier design would lack entirely. I love the contrasting green odhni and her emerald sparklers. The longer length kurta paired with the patiala salwaar really suits her. Kudos to Mrs. D for going easy on the makeup and accessories, and yay for wearing hair naturally curly!Photo Source.

Sportswear as Fashion.

Check out cricket babe Shilpa on the cover of Hi! Living all decked out in cricket gear. She's following in the footsteps of fellow cricket babe, Preity who - dressed in classic editorial style in a graphic print Emilio Pucci maxi and Mawi "Muthafaka" bangles - charmingly wielded a cricket bat in a 2008 Vogue spread.

Again, Why?

We all know Mallika Sherawat, known for her overt brand of sex appeal, is nothing if not opportunistic. Still, her latest appearance at Millions of Milkshakes in West Hollywood dressed as if she had just walked off the sets of her latest item song, leaves me mystified. Question 1: is this really what one wears to promote a food item? I guess it shouldn't be surprising given her usual attire at red carpet events.Question 2: Is it really necessary to pose coyly with a banana? Well I guess we know subtlety isn't her style. Question 3: A repeat from earlier, but still valid question - what is she doing in Hollywood?!Photo Source.

Breaking News.

Even if you don't normally tune in to pageants, you may want to catch the Miss USA 2009 pageant tonight on NBC. Representing the state of Indiana, will be 22-year-old Indian American Courtni Shabana Hall. This stunner was born in India and adopted by American parents at 5-months old. With Anoop on Idol and now, Courtni, well that's a lot of desippearances on American tv. Here's wishing Courtni luck tonight!Photo Source.

I know the global economy has taken a downturn, but that doesn't justify sacking a stylist when producing a film. Clearly, there was a total and complete lack of stylistic intervention on the set of what has alternately been reported as Kab Tak or Shadow where Sonali Kulkarni performed an item song in this ghastly outfit. It appears to have been crafted out of the sequined remnants of a fabric store's going out of business sale. There is absolutely no regard here for flattering Sonali's shape or even for using material that doesn't scream cheap-o. Poor Sonali. It's bad enough that her fashion sense is usually off when she dresses herself, now she can't even rely on professionals to get the job done.Photo Source.

You Be The Judge.

Amisha and Celina were kind enough to pose together at the Manish Malhotra show at Day 4 of LFW so that we could have a perfect snap for our Monday YBTJ. There's no question of taalian for this one. It' s more like which gal gets more gaalian - Celina or Amisha? Their outfits are both pretty awful, but which one is worse? Any thoughts?Photo Credit: Reuters Pictures.

Breaking News.

After wrapping up shooting their costars-with-a-twist roles in Mani Ratnam's much anticipated Ravana, our favorite husband-wife duo will reportedly hit the big screen together in Abhinay Deo's "spy thriller" bearing the working title Crooked. Mr. and Mrs. Smith, anyone?Via Sawf News.

Filmi Forecast: Ravana.

Aishwaryashek is currently completing shooting for Mani Ratnam's Ravana in Kolkata. Reportedly, Aish's role is loosely based on Sita. She herself has repeatedly and firmly cautioned fans that she is not portraying Sita.Contrary to what one might expect, Mani Sir has made a rather intriguing decision by not casting Abhi baby in the role based on Rama. Instead, AB Jr. will be assaying a Ravana-type role. In various scenes filmed on the banks of the Ganga near Kolkata, we get glimpses of AB Jr. and La Rai clad in beautiful Sabyasachi anarkalis.Based on the Sabyasachis alone, I can't wait to catch this flick!Photo Credit: Reuters Pictures.

King Khan, Shilpa Shetty, and PZ brought some Bolly flavor to IPL events in South Africa. For those in the know (or for those who care to know), the IPL tournament has been relocated to Cape Town due to security concerns in the Desh related to upcoming elections. PZ alternated between her derby-best and cute-n-casual, while Shilpa went safari-style. Two distinct Bolly starlets, with two distinct styles.Photo Credit: Getty Images.Photo Credit: AP Photo.Photo Credit: AP Photo.
