The Paa premiere was eclipsed by the sighting of one trend that needs to go away fast. What would that trend be you ask? Copying AB Sr. that's what. The man staked claim some time ago to the nerdy, black-rimmed specs trend. I've got nothing against this trend per se. I would even venture that it works on AB Sr. I do take issue, however, when it seems like every fella within seeing distance of the Big B, decides to claim the trend for themselves as well. Look no farther than Abhi Baby! Now he's posing alongside dear old Dad and the two of them look like twinnies. Not far behind, Ritesh wants in on the geek chic trend as well. It's all a little much. Two Peas in a Pod

Departing from her traditional outfit penchant, Rani surprised us all by popping up in a green, satin mini on the set of "Dance Premier League". Normally, the satin mini is totally Piggy Chops territory, so how did Rani fare? IMHO, not so well. Somehow the mini coupled with those awful, clunky heels only serves to shorten her legs. As all short ladies know, the key is to lengthen! Kat finally ditched her adolescent attire and attended an Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani party in a minty fresh mini as well. I think Kat definitely worked this outfit better than Rani, but she too succumbed to a most unfortunate choice of footwear. I'm totally down with the metallic, but in flats?! C'mon, Kat. Sallu baba's not around ... it's ok to rock a pair of mile-high heels!

Each of these ladies has their own style, and I gotta say, at the Fashion Tribute to Kaifi Azmi, both were stunning knock-outs in bold colors. The ladies in question, La Rai and Twinkle, achieved their knock-out statuses in two totally different styles. Twinkle was a wash of bright, aqua blue in a cut and drape that only she could pull off. She accessorized with a couple of bold, chunky, gold pieces but otherwise let the dress do all the talking. A lesser fashionista would have been overwhelmed by the color and length, but not our Twinks! She's polished and sophisticated as always. Note that she deftly avoided the rookie mistake of matchtastic makeup - there is not a hint of aqua eye shadow in the neutral palette she selected. I'm also digging the understated curls she's rocking. If Twinks said, "Yawn, darlings. I wake up looking this good," I'd believe her!On the other hand, La Rai arrived in a stunning rose pink and gold anarkali-style suit. I cannot say enough about how much I love this particular shade of pink. It's a welcome change from all the pastels and baby pinks we see regularly. Like Twinkle, La Rai kept her accessories to a minimum. Her bejeweled sandals add just the right amount of oomph without distracting from her suit. Her hair is loose and swingy and not overstyled, and the makeup focuses on a light dusting of pink shadow and a rose toned gloss. Simple and perfect! I only wish some of her effortless style would rub off on hubby dearest. He is a top-down disaster in every sense of the word. Those glasses. The velvet blazer. The man jewelry. Ugh. It's like he got dressed in the dark or something. Aishwarya, he's clearly crying out for your help!Photos: Bollywood Hungama

The Difference is Like Night and Day

They're only one of B-town's most talked about couples. Saifu and lady love Bebo manage to create a stir just about anywhere they go. So it baffles me that they would attend actual promotional events dressed as shabbily as both were while attending the Hungama Digital press meet for their film Kurbaan. Kareena's got her baby tee a la Katrina paired with regular ol' denims and sneakers. Perhaps she needs a refresher on the Rule? The only positive for her look is that her hair is as usual fabulous, and her makeup is fresh and radiant. She is glowing, don't ya think? Saifu, with his leather man-accessories, vest and boot cuts denims along with that godawaful bandana looks more like he's about to hop on his Harley and bike away than promote a film. Well talk about pulling a 180. The power couple attended another press meet for Kurbaan in Delhi, and their attire couldn't have been better! Classic, black sherwani for Saifu (I lowe it!), and a beautiful peach and gold chudidaar suit for Bebo. The flash of fuschia chudidaars was a fun touch. This just goes to show you, when these guys are on, they are so on! Photos: Bollywood Hungama, Filmicafe

So They're Trendsetters Then?

I still vehemently oppose the phenomenon, but here's a little reading from the WSJ, regarding "heavage" or man cleavage. I had no idea there was actually a term out there for that. Anyway, per this article, it appears that Saifu, Abhi, Jackie and all the rest are actually on some sort of fashion forefront.

Shilpa's Shaadi

Check out the snaps from Shilpa Shetty and Raj Kundra's nuptials held in Khandala. You'll probably notice striking similarities between Shilpa's wedding ceremony attire and accessories and Aishwarya's styling at her wedding. I'm told this is because both brides belong to the Bunt community of Mangalore. The gajra in her hair is a lovely, South Indian touch! For her reception, Shilpa's gown was designed by Tarun Tahiliani. Interestingly, she opted for head-to-toe gold with ruby and diamond jewelry designed by Anmol. The look was very bold and flashy, but then again, she was the bride so I suppose all eyes did belong on her. Photos: AP.

A Very Black Tie Affair

For the first White House state dinner of the Obama administration, the Obamas played host to Indian PM Manmohan Singh and First Lady Gursharan Kaur. For the occasion, a lavish banquet was thrown in honor of the Singhs. Michelle Obama was stunning in a creme, strapless Naeem Khan creation. Notice how she's piled on the bangdis desi style?

Among the A-listers in attendance for the glitzy event, I think Bhavna Shyamalan (w/o M. Night) was right on the mark in an elegant sari. Also pictured below: Jhumpa Lahiri along with her husband Alberto Vourvoulias and Gov. Bobby Jindal along with his wife Supriya. Photos: AFP/Getty

Battle of the Tattered Denims.

Looks like Imran an Dino are locked in a fierce battle, each trying to outdo the other at the Bandra environment celebration. IMO, showing up anywhere other than to paint a house in shredded jeans, is a no-no. Therefore, I'd say they're both losers in this case! Photo: Getty.

Hannah Montana, Anyone?

Since when is adolescence hip? Either Aamna thinks it's cool to dress like a pre-teen, or she got carried away copying Kat without realizing Kat was (most regrettably) "in character" promoting a film while dressed in this childish manner. I guess this is what happens when you copy a fashionable celeb too carefully. Bottom line: just because you're attending a Children's Film Festival, doesn't mean you have to dress like one!
Photo: Bollywood Hungama.

La Rai unveiled the Filmfare "50 Most Beautiful People" issue in Mumbai in a look that fell uncharacteristically flat. No doubt the forest green is striking on her (but honestly, what color wouldn't look good on TMBWITW?), but I think her choice of accessories is iffy here. First off, i wish she'd have had her tailor take the hem of her dress up to just above knee level to lend it more shape. I'm not sold on the wide belt and I'm definitely disliking those close toe heels. If she had swapped in a pair of strappy silver sandals along with a thing, elegant, metallic belt, I think the overall result would have been more oomph than pffft.

Lookin' Good.

Kareena and Saifu hit the ramp at India Couture Week, walking for Manish Malhotra. Peachy-pink is a lovely color on Bebo. The crushed velvet blue jacket actually looks good on Saifu - now we can all see where he gets his man cleavage obsession from. Since it has MM's tacit approval, Saifu must really think this is a great look for him to rock. Poor fool. Photo: Reuters.

What Gives, Kat?!

Ok, we cut her some slack last time and assumed that she was decked out in juvey fashion due to some contractual clause obligating her to dress like a pre-teen while promoting APKGK. However, I now present to you all, Exhibit 2: Katrina promoting De Dana Dan still attired in Limited Too-style attire. If said contractual clause appears in the contracts for all your forthcoming releases, Kat, I suggest you hire yourself a new management team and have such clauses permanently stricken! There's no reason I can think of for a 25-year-old to dress like this - hell, she shouldn't even be playing teenagers in movies let alone dressing like them in real life.Photo: Filmicafe.

You Be The Judge: LBD Edition.

Minissha, Neha and Mughda worked a Gilette promotional event in 3 very different takes on the LBD. Got a fave? Or put another way, which one looks the least tacky? p.s. if you think Minissha's heels look familiar, they should. She last wore them here. Photo: Getty.

Overkill Versus Just Right.

Overkill is the only word that can adequately describe Avanti Birla at HDIL Couture Week. Clingy dress, asymmetrical hemline, wild zebra print sandals and about 2 dozen hot pink Mardi Gras beads? It's all too much. Ms. Birla should have taken a cue from Dia who was elegant and understated in a full sleeve creme anarkali. Sometimes, less is more!Photos: BCCL.

Satin Pants x25?

Honestly, she's trotted them out so often that I've lost track! Raveena attended the Podar Institute book launch in those infamous satin pants of hers. Truthfully, this is more of a x2 squared because we've seen those godawful chappals a few too many times as well! Photo: Filmicafe.

AmBo All Over the Place!

I know I tend to approach AmBo with what might be considered an overly critical eye. Last time AmBo struck So You Think You Can Dance I was fairly disappointed in Nakul Mahajan's fusion choreography for the dancers who performed to (what else?) Jai Ho. This season, Mahajan has me changing my tune! I have to say, I agree with the judges - I think he actually nailed the blending of western and Bollywood styles without losing either of the styles in the process. With the Jai Ho number, I felt he lost the fluidity and grace of Bollywood and also watered down the technical aspects of western in his attempted fusion of the two. So, I approached this latest attempt with a healthy dose of skepticism. Take a look for yourselves, but I found this piece to be thoroughly enjoyable - it showcases what makes Bolly, Bolly but also highlights the dancers superior technique and movement control. The dancers dance to Azeem O Shaan Shahenshah from Jodhaa Akbar which itself is a very interesting musical selection. Also, costuming is way better this go around! See for yourselves: SYTYCD isn't the only place AmBo is cropping up these days. A certain skating aficionado I know will appreciate this. Shout out: MK! An American ice dancing duo won a recent competition where they skated to a medley of songs including BAB's Kajra Re and a couple of Devdas hits. Now I don't really know how you can choreograph Bolly on ice, but have a dekho!

Beauty and the Geek.

Freida and beau Dev strolled the red carpet at the BAFTA awards in LA and what a refreshing pair they make! Freida was just as fabulous as ever in Valentino while Dev happily mugged for the camera in his own style: geek chic. Love these two.Photos: Reuters.

Prego Couture.

Sometimes it can be tough dressing up while prego. Let's face it. You want to look good and no mu mu ever made anyone look good. No where is there more angst and frustration than in the sphere of finding attractive desi styles for the pregnant woman. Amrita Arora shows us how it's done at HDIL Couture Week. This mommy-to-be rocked out a specially designed chudidaar suit. Simple yet elegant. And that glow on her face is just unmistakable! If any readers have suggestions on where to find Indian fashions designed for maternity-wear, holla! I'm sure other desi mammas-to-be out there would appreciate it. Photos: Santabanta, Bollywood Mantra.

UFD Sighting.

Well we haven't had one of these in quite a while, have we? This Unidentified Fashion Disaster was spotted at HDIL Couture Week. Clearly, she has no business being there or she and her stylist got into a huge snit that day which resulted in this godawful choice of attire. First off, I have to ask: "what the hell is she wearing?" I don't mean this in the philosophical sense. I mean it literally. What is this? Is it a lehnga? Is it a kameez paired with a sari petticoat? Aside from this major issue, the overuse of varying shades of gold is totally overwhelming. A handbag that size when your outfit is already very voluminous, is a major mistake. It's sad, really. The top would make for a cute outfit if paired with oh ... I dunno ... a nice salwaar!

Streak Much?

Here's a look-see at 2 stars taking on a hair fad with 2 dramatically different results. Piggy Chops jumped on the hair streaking bandwagon with both feet. While attending a charity dinner, you'll notice her hair appears to be dipped in bright blue color at the ends. No, your eyes are not deceiving you. It's just about the only way she could make her bleh of a hair cut even worse. Add to that fact, that this particular hair color trend is not really suited for formal events, and you have a definite hair mishap. On the other hand, young up-and-comer Genelia nailed the trend. First off, let's start with the fact that Genelia was attending a premiere in a decidedly less formal context than Piggy C. She's off to a winning start already. Add to that, Genelia dipped her strands in bright pink but paired this with straight hair and you'll see why she's hitting the mark. Finally, Genelia achieves a edgy, young, rockstar look by pairing the bold hair statement with a funky blouse. This hair trend is not one to be tried lightly, however, as Genelia and Piggy Chops illustrate, there's a right way and an oh-so-wrong way to approach it! Photos: Bollywood Hungama, Reuters.

Lady in Red.

The fabulous Preity Zinta graced the closing ceremony of the MAMI festival decked out in her favorite color: red. While I'm not a huge fan of the Chanel handbag, I do like the gold accessories she's paired with her suit - I particularly love her sandals. She looks fantastic both in red and in desi attire. PZ knows how to take an otherwise simple suit and kick it up a notch in the glam department. The only thing I'd lose would be the satin border at the bottom of her kameez, but that's a mere trifle when her overall look is spot on! Photo: Glamsham.

(Facial) Hair Emergency.

Ok what is the deal here? First Emraan promoting Tum Mile and then Arbaaz at HDIL Couture Week. The one looks like a sleazy porn star, and the other, a straight up filmi villain. Seriously guys, what gives?Photos: Bharatwaves, Bollywood Mantra

Paging .... Deepika?

Sanjay Gupta isn't the only brownie gracing the web pages of CNN these days. None other than Deepika Padukone made a desippearance today in an article entitled The New Face of Bollywood. Check it.

No Brainer.

Lovely ladies Lara and Piggy C attended the Teacher's Achievement Awards. At said event, their mutual attendance was about the only thing the ladies shared in common. While Lara was a vision in shimmering black and gold with flowing tresses, Piggy was a glittering disaster. The oddly shaped, disco ball of a dress with her bizzare, shaggy hair cut were a total and complete disaster in my opinion.Photos: Reuters.

Cover Story: Fit for a Queen.

Check out Bebo on the November cover of Hi! Blitz. She looks every inch the part of a maharani. The bright pink is toned down by the golds and muted purple of the Manish Malhotra lehnga. From what I can see, the embroidery on the blouse is stunning. And check out the jewelry! It adds to the soft, antiquey vibe of the cover look. Photo: ApunKaChoice.

Sister, Sister.

Which duo's ultra-cas look are you digging at SRK's birthday bash? In my opinion, Karishma still looks put together albeit dressed down. Kareena on the other hand looks more slob than chic! And don't even get me started on Saif's display of man cleavage. Ugh. Photos: Bollywood Hungama.

25 Going On 12?

Somebody please tell me Kat's in-character while promoting her forthcoming release Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani. What else can explain why a 25-year-old woman would make appearance after appearance in baby tees, schoolgirl skirts, and cutesy head bands? Smurfs? Minnie Mouse? Claire's accessories? It's all so saccharine sweet, it's cavity inducing. Take a look for yourselves: Photos: Bollywood Hungama.

Khaas Baat.

It's official! The Deccan Chronicle reports that Shilpa Shetty is set to wed financier boyfriend Raj Kundra on November 22 in Khandala. The couple recently had their engagement ceremony in Mumbai where la Shetty wore (what else?) a hot pink Manish Malhotra sari with heavy duty jewels by Anmol Jewelers. A big, Bolly-style wedding, and that too, of none other than Shilpa Shetty, promises to draw out our favorite Tinseltown celebs in their gaudiest wedding finery! Can't wait to see what the bride herself will be wearing. Though we can probably assume that the designer will be MM.

Sari Story.

I spotted a couple of beautiful sari looks on the MAMI festival red carpet. First up, Ms. Rani. Flawless hair and makeup plus a sari with just the right amount of jhak pak, and we can all see how phenomenal she looks with the right styling! Not one to be outdone, Nandita Das opted for her usual silk sari which she wore with her trademark subdued grace. I only wish she'd piled on a statement necklace/earring set to play up her burgandy blouse and liven up the creme a bit. But that's her style, and I gotta admire her for it. Plus, after seeing the Amisha debacle, I can't really complain.Photos: Bollywood Hungama.

On the Catwalk, Yeah.

The Rangeela girl is back and hotter than ever. Urmila looked smashing on the runway at LFW for designer Jaya Rathore. What a difference a good stylist can make, eh? I love the yellow/purple combination of the lehnga, and that exquisite detailing doesn't hurt either!Photos: Zenny.

You Be The Judge: Black and White.

Who rocked this striking combination better? Sonam at a Gem and Jewelry Export press conference, or Deepika walking for Gauri and Nainika at LFW?Photos: Reuters.

Bronzed Beauty.

I'm so glad to see that Bolly starlets are slowly but surely inching away from the paler than pale look that is unfortunately so ingrained in desi culture. Thanks to stars like Bipasha, we see more actresses embracing their lovely tan complexions. I love Mughda's shimmery, sun-kissed look at the music launch for Jail.Want to recreate her look? It's easy! Using MAC Powder Blush in Honour, swirl a fluffy brush and highlight cheekbones sweeping outward toward your hairline. You can also apply this powder to your brow bones for some extra shimmer.

Happy Halloween, everyone! Here's a spooky pic for you. It's Amisha at Sumeen Singh and Gurpal Chawla's wedding. Although she was a guest at the wedding, it appears that she was also teaching a course on How to Look Completely Inappropriate in a Sari. I mean really. You have to try pretty damn hard to look this godawful in a sari. I will just state for the upteenth time, that I hate this skanky style of sari draping. No two ways about it.Photo: Desimartini.

Mama Knows Best.

Growing up with such a fashionable mum, you'd think at least a tiny bit of styling sense would have rubbed off on Soha. From these pics at the MAMI festival, you can plainly see that it did not. While mummy dearest looks every bit the polished diva in an autumnal sari and understated jewelry, Soha opted for a lousy red halter top (get a bloody strapless bra, already!), cheap-o plastic necklace, and a flippin' sarong (or a really hideous skirt) with what appears to be some kind of awful animal print tote. Gah.What a disappointment.Photo: Filmicafe.
